Circling the Sun: A Novel by Paula McLain
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I was compelled to read this knowing its connection to Out of Africa. I was not disappointed and was fascinated with Beryl Markham’s life. This is a gripping tale of a woman shaped by society, her passions, and the men in her world. She denied the traditional roles dictated to her by the English in Africa in the 1920s. She wanted so much and paid dearly for it. Her relationships are troubled and intertwining. Though I don’t agree with her lifestyle I felt compassion for her as she met so much tragedy and drama over her lifetime. Paula McLain outdoes herself in relaying the intermingling storylines and friendships that cross the pages of Circling the Sun.
I received a copy of Circling the Sun from NetGalley for my honest review which I have given.
