Help! I’m Buried in My Underwear Drawer! Delightful Devotional!

Help! I'm Buried in the Underwear Drawer: Let's get real about our stuff!Help! I’m Buried in the Underwear Drawer: Let’s get real about our stuff! by Amy Larson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Pick up this delightful and brief (hee-hee!) book that packs a meaningful message in each devotion. They each end with a Bible verse and a journaling space. The cute humor and darling illustrations create a fun vibe. What a great book to leave behind at a coffee shop or gift to your hairstylist who rarely opens a Bible. The perky author, Amy Larson gets real with our intimates’ drawer and with God. I recommend Help! I’m Buried in the Underwear Drawer!

I was gifted an e-file copy of this book. Thank you, Amy! My review is my honest opinion and was under no obligation to write it.

P.S. Readers, I took an online course from Amy two weeks ago geared at decluttering. I spent part of my Saturday with women I didn’t know but with the same goal – to clean out areas of our home! We met online for thirty minutes and then worked on our own for an hour, back and forth for 4 hours. I met my goal for my desk which has been a daunting task for me. Amy is inspiring with plenty of energy. She speaks, writes, and besides giving online classes, she does one on one encouragement. Her website is :http://www.clutterconquest.net

Home – Fabulous Read!

April 13, 2017 by admin Leave a Comment

HomeHome by Ginny L. Yttrup
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love when an author gives her characters real struggles, with deep angst, and life-changing decisions throughout the novel. Melanie and Craig Vander face different choices out of the tragedy that struck them years before. Will what they choose keep their marriage off the brink it is on or tear them apart?
To keep them financially afloat, Melanie desperately writes another novel and her characters may help her find what she needs. Her neighbor struggles with her own challenges. Grab this book and see for yourself what their relationship creates.
From the first page, I realized I was reading an above average book by a Christian author. The validity of the concerns, how she knit them into the story, and how each person concludes their situations excelled beyond my expectations! This book can be read by non-Christians. Her use of scripture and faith occur naturally.
I can’t wait to read another one of Ginny Yttrup’s books!
I received 2 copies of this book, an ebook from NetGalley and the paperback from Barbour Publishing. I have written my honest opinion and review here.

Overwhelmed – How to Quiet the Chaos and Restore Your Sanity – Outstanding, Practical, and User Friendly!

Overwhelmed: How to Quiet the Chaos and Restore Your SanityOverwhelmed: How to Quiet the Chaos and Restore Your Sanity by Kathi Lipp
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Have you ever been so overwhelmed you didn’t know which air to breathe next? That’s where I’ve been the last few months! It’s not pretty and makes the people around you wish you stayed in your room all day.
Well, I have a book for you….and me! Kathi Lipp and Cheri Gregory hit it out of the ball park again with their newly released, Overwhelmed: How to Quiet the Chaos and Restore Your Sanity. I committed to join their book launch team back in the summer. I didn’t know the depth of my need for their words right now. In fact, I’m late in getting this review completed and posted for them. I read it from front to back underlining and noting in the margins with big exclamations marks.
Here’s the thing – I’m drowning and not sure how to keep my head up any longer. Sound familiar? How did it get this way? I don’t have time to figure that out but that’s exactly what we need to do. Kathi and Cheri unpack the “how’s”, the “why’s”, and the “whats” by sharing their own stories in each chapter. Yet they don’t leave you there. After the unpacking, they line up the ways to carry your tidy, useful, and manageable suitcase from here on out.
The chapters end with effective questions for yourself or to do with a group and a prayer to reinforce the practices given. Corresponding Bible verses throughout the book aid the points made and are pertinent for memorizing.
Cheri shares; “Most days, I feel as though someone threw my heart in a blender, and added all the feels, and hit puree”…”We can still be blindsided by how draining even basic decision-making becomes when life gets complicated. Research shows that our fluid intelligence-our general ability to think abstractly, reason, identify patterns, solve problems, and discern relationships- drops significantly when we are overwhelmed.”
As aids to this situation, Kathi adds, “When I start my day well, the rest of my day doesn’t feel like one long rush to catch up.” She creates what that looks like by talking about “Early Evening Kathi’, “First Thing in the morning Kathi” and “Daytime Kathi”. She states, “Our most important evening job is to get set up for the next day.” “Our routines help us become better versions of ourselves.”
Kathi, also analyzes in the last chapter what Sabbath is about and how our whole week should be about preparing for that day, instead of Sunday becoming the catch up day. She shares we all need a day of rest. It might not be on Sunday but “you get focused about completing your work in six days instead of seven.”
They discuss “safe” and “unsafe” people and strained relationships that drain you.
I loved this quote, “In the time I spent debating whether to do something, I could have done it. Living without structure isn’t freedom; it’s a free-for-all that turns into chaos.”
You will find help in writing your own manifesto allowing you to know who you are and make choices accordingly. Step by step instructions in accomplishing tasks with micro-steps and placing them on your calendar are included.
This read is fun, correctional, and spiritual with abundant guidance. You can identify with these two women and learn from their study and experience.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, confused, and lacking in decision making in your life, pick up Overwhelmed!
Now my review is written and I can begin to apply the principles I appreciated and learned!

I was given a book by the authors and am writing this review to get the word out about it but I also, bought 8 books hoping for a small group discussion and accountability plus for gifting. The authors have included online aids that can be printed, manifestos as examples, and questionnaires for self-clarification. You will also, find coordinating videos.
Bravo, Kathi Lipp and Cheri Gregory!

The Wedding Shop – Enthralling!

September 24, 2016 by admin Leave a Comment

The Wedding ShopThe Wedding Shop by Rachel Hauck
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Wedding Shop vividly remains imprinted in my mind as though it had been a movie. I can see the scenes, hear the sounds, and feel the heartache. I grew to love these characters. I wanted the book to continue.

This second book in the Heart’s Bend series will captivate you. It has a connection to the first book which is heavenly but can be read on it’s own. Haley and Cora are from two different generations but with the same desire; to help brides have their dream day. The dual plots mix throughout the book but the wedding shop is the same. Both women have tough issues and are very loyal to their families. Sometimes they don’t know love when it is right in front of them. Often they test their faith in God. I highly suggest reading The Wedding Shop for a delightful and dreamy experience.

I received a copy from NetGalley for my honest review which I have given.

The Long Journey to Jake Palmer – A Moving Must Read!

The Long Journey to Jake PalmerThe Long Journey to Jake Palmer by James L. Rubart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mesmerized from the first page, I hated to put this book down. James L. Rubart has written another gripping story. I read his book, Rooms a few years ago so I figured this would be great. I was not disappointed. Jake Palmer is on his way home and stops at a gas station. His life would never be the same. The rest of the book will take you on an emotional ride and won’t stop until the last page. My faith was strengthened by this novel and the realization of how God loves me so unconditionally struck home loud and clear!

I highly recommend The Long Journey to Jake Palmer! It will move your heart and soul!

I received a copy from Net Galley for my honest opinion which I have given in this review.

More Than Rivals – An Inspiring Story of Two Young Men!

More Than Rivals: A Championship Game and a Friendship That Moved a Town Beyond Black and WhiteMore Than Rivals: A Championship Game and a Friendship That Moved a Town Beyond Black and White by Ken Abraham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am an avid basketball fan and this book had me from the first page! You don’t need to be one to see the amazing drive early in the lives of these two young men . The historical background of black meeting white in a time and place in the United States added a heavy yet ironic statement. The details the author included were crisp and key to fully grasp the dimensions of the contrasts and similarities of Eddie Sherlin and Bill Ligon, their families, their faith, and neighborhoods.

This is a rare treat for me to read a non-fiction book. It fascinated and rewarded me. I had not known of their lives and feel richer now that I do. I grew up in the same era they did but lived in an area of the United States where the tensions between races were minimal and almost non-existent. Learning more about the reality of what others experienced was definitely worth reading this book.

I received a copy of More Than Rivals: A Championship Game and a Friendship that Moved a Town Beyond Black and White from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review which I have given.

Spoken From the Heart reaches the Heart!

Spoken From the Heart: Choosing GraceSpoken From the Heart: Choosing Grace by Cheri Swalwell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Spoken From the Heart is written with authenticity and honesty. The author clearly desires to be a woman of God and deals openly with her every day issues that readers can relate to in their own lives. I would like to share some quotes to show you what to expect from this 31 day reading.

“My job is to love. Accept the person. Let others know they are valuable, loved worthy, and unique. And….introduce them to our Father. Then let God be the One, in His time, to show the person what areas in their lives need help. He’s more than capable.”

“Not once in these examples did Jesus degrade, criticize, demean or replay the person’s mistakes repeatedly. So my point in all this is two-fold. We need to look toward Jesus’ response when others make mistakes that affect us. And also, we need to remind ourselves that if Jesus is willing to show compassion when we’re learning, we need to give ourselves that same courtesy. After all, that’s the way of the God of the Universe handles the situation, don’t you think it’s good enough for us, too?”

“He doesn’t need me to obey perfectly. In fact, I will never be perfect. I don’t need to place high expectations on myself to ‘hear Him right’ all the time. I just need to be willing to listen when He speaks. …But if I’m truly seeking to listen to His voice, He will keep talking until I get it.”

More awaits the reader inside Spoken From the Heart.

I wasn’t ready for this book. My daughter went through infertility for several years and finally had their baby through in vitro fertilization so I related to this story. My heart fell in love with these characters. All of them! What a talented writer Steena Holmes is!
Claire and Josh jump off the page as they travel through Europe, return home, and continue writing children’s books. Their love for each other stands so strong. They have fabulous friends and family. This book is a feel good, quick read that will hit your soul and I recommend reading it.
