Advent in Narnia – Excellent Tradition Addition!

March 10, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

Advent in Narnia: Reflections for the SeasonAdvent in Narnia: Reflections for the Season by Heidi Haverkamp
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Advent in Narnia will please any Narnia fan and others, too. What a unique way to prepare for Christ’s birth! The author mixes in both Narnia characters and scripture to enlighten the season. The book holds twenty-eight devotions with reflection questions. I read this by myself but will enjoy using it in the future with my grandson and family as Narnia becomes real to him. Since my copy is an e-book I look forward to purchasing the hardbound edition. It is lovely and will complement my Christmas collection.
I am thankful to NetGalley for this reading and reviewing opportunity. My views and honest opinions are my own.

June Bug – A Must Read! Loved it!

June BugJune Bug by Chris Fabry
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this novel! This adorable, precocious girl lives her life to the fullest. She has no idea what has occurred in her short lifespan but pieces of possible reality start filtering in making her question who she is. Her wisdom though, surpasses the adults around her which she records in her journal. The story that unfolds brings heartache, joy, and redemption. I would read this book again and I rarely do that.
I highly recommend June Bug. It will stay in your heart for a long time!
Chris Fabry has an uncanny way of winning your heart with his writing and characters. In fact, I read four of his books one after the other early this summer.

Someone Like You – Moving!

Someone Like YouSomeone Like You by Victoria Bylin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Someone Like You takes the reader on quite a ride. Julie Dare begins a new business to provide for her son who she shares custody with his father whom she did not marry. She runs into an old beau, Zeke when she bids on a project at the resort where he is the general manager. Between a crazy goat, her son’s father’s ego, and trying to pull off the wedding of the century she must keep all the balls in the air as she faces one dilemma after another. Zeke is trying to save the resort from being sold and if Julie can produce all she says she can do he may be able to keep his dream job. He has stopped believing in God and Julie is a new Christian so how do they manage all that’s thrown at them? This delightful novel includes family, faith, relationships, and forgiveness.

I received a copy of Someone Like You from NetGalley and the author.

Wild in the Hollow -A Woman’s Totally Honest and Vulnerable Journey

August 14, 2015 by admin Leave a Comment

Wild in the Hollow: On Chasing Desire and Finding the Broken Way HomeWild in the Hollow: On Chasing Desire and Finding the Broken Way Home by Amber C. Haines
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wild in the Hollow is an engaging autobiography of a young woman who lost her way, finds herself in a desperate place, and opens herself to the God of hope, purpose, and security. Amber Haines’ vulnerability is to be admired as she puts down on paper thoughts, attitudes, and actions that most of us keep close to our skin. Her journey through young adulthood, marriage, and motherhood goes many directions while she looks for authenticity from others and herself. I identified with her strong desire to live for God, love her husband, and raise her children well. Her stark openness hit like I was reading her journal. She searches for peace, a simple life uncluttered with our society’s trappings so she can focus on God’s reality for her. I found myself underlining many truths throughout the book. I doubt this will be the last we hear from her.

I received this book from Revell Reads/Net Galley for my honest review which I have given.

An Amish Second Christmas – A Delight!

January 12, 2015 by admin Leave a Comment

What a precious collection of Christmas stories! Each one was unique but captivating and I thoroughly enjoyed reading them. The Amish characters drew me in learning about their Christmas celebrations. Four stories with different aspects of life that anyone can relate to and be captivated by. Since they are all short this was a quick read yet I wanted them to go on. Love, friendship, family, and faith float through all of them.

I highly recommend this delightful book, An Amish Second Christmas by four great authors!

I received this ebook from BookLook Bloggers for an honest review which I have given.
