The June Boys – Gripping!

July 5, 2020 by admin Leave a Comment

This book was hard to set down. The opening scene grabbed me and the suspence continued to build right to the end. As the story developed and more details were discovered about the Gemini Thief, a kidnapper of boys, the more suspects mounted. The author incorporated multiple voices throughout the novel which enhanced its flavor and the characters. They became real people to me as I saw the ramifications of losing someone you love which turns every waking moment into remembering and grieving at the same time.
Thea Delacroix deeply misses her cousin, Aulus, belieiving he is one of the June boys. But the police arrest her eccentric father as the main suspect. Her world seems to be spiraling downward where no one trusts her and she fears to trust anyone.
I recommend this creative, cliff-hanging novel by Courtney C. Stevens. It is not my usual Christian historic novel. I received a copy from Net Galley and Thomas Nelson. I was not compensated for this review. All thoughts are my own. #TheJuneBoys #NetGalley

Murder Comes By Mail – Fantastic Second Book in the Series!

Murder Comes by Mail (Hidden Springs Mystery #2)Murder Comes by Mail by A.H. Gabhart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When I saw that A. H. Gabhart had her second book out in the Hidden Springs Mystery series I grabbed the chance to read it. Her characters are well developed and believable. I really like Deputy Sheriff Michael Keane, the lead in this series. His humbleness and unassuming personality make this mystery very appealing. He becomes the hero in the town early on but then he feels more as an albatross as people are being killed. This book is a delight to read and the suspense keeps you turning the pages until the end. What I enjoy, too, is that Michael is in love with a woman who used to live in his town but now is a big shot attorney who never wants to return to her roots. Michael’s feisty aunt continues to convince him to settle down but Michael likes life the way it is, simple and uncomplicated. I highly recommend Murder Comes by Mail.

The Face Transplant – A Fascinating, Clean Read!

October 11, 2015 by admin Leave a Comment

The Face TransplantThe Face Transplant by R. Arundel
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Face Transplant takes you for a great ride! This is a clean, fast paced mystery. R. Arundel creatively details the characters that interact so well with each other as surprises and challenges come their way. Matthew leads the drama and I really liked him. His team travels all over the world to solve the dilemma they find themselves in after a face transplant goes wrong. I could visualize where they were and what was happening in each scenario, a very good quality for a first time writer. The circumstances that occur could happen in the future and probably are in place now. The plot is clearly thought out and drives the movement of the book. I stayed up to read this one. I will be watching for future books from this author! I highly recommend reading this fascinating book, The Face Transplant!

I received a copy of this book by Net Galley for an honest review which I have given.

Trial by Twelve – A Fun Mystery!

June 24, 2015 by admin Leave a Comment

Trial by Twelve (A Murder in the Mountains, #2)Trial by Twelve by Heather Day Gilbert
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Take your time and give Trial by Twelve a chance. Each chapter begins with an anonymous letter written by a father to his estranged child. Once you get into it the pages will fly by. Since I have not read the first book in Heather Day Gilbert’s A Murder in the Mountain series I’m assuming the main character, Tess is introduced there. She will entertain you and her family is delightful. One problem though or actually quite a few keep her from her ideal life. She works part time at a high end spa where bones are discovered while an outdoor pool is being installed. She gets pulled into the investigation when more than one human’s bones are found. A super sleuth, Detective Tucker is on the case and thinks Tess can help him while she keeps an eye on the spa staff. Her attorney husband is less enthusiastic over her involvement. He’s on his way up the ladder and needs her by his side. This book will entertain, provide suspense, and even give some humor.

I recommend Trial by Twelve. It’s a great summer read or anytime you want a vacation from your life.

I received a copy of Heather Day Gilbert’s book through The Book Club Network for my honest review which I have given.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Treasures of Her Heart gives you so much; romance, mystery, suspense, faith, and family loyalty. Nikki’s life is smooth sailing. Then she realizes she’s tired of traveling even with the big bucks coming in. Her Aunt Winnie’s health is waning but has an antique business about 300 miles away. Could Nikki exchange her life in Detroit for small town living? Would she miss her parents and her dear friend, Rob? In her 30s, Nikki moves on to help her aunt and try her hand in a whole different environment. When she arrives several situations hit her in the face. Her aunt’s money is gone, back taxes on her aunt’s property haven’t been paid in over three years, and a young man, Joel has made deep inroads in her aunt’s heart. How will Nikki handle what has landed in her lap? What will she do with her feelings for Rob now that she has left him behind? Why is Joel coming on to her? Does she wish she could return to her safe cocoon back home? Will her faith remain strong? And now, where is home? The answers to these questions will be found by the end of this book. Twists, turns, and surprises await the reader as the characters deal with many dilemmas. Gail Gaymer Martin will keep you reading!
