The Ladies of Ivy Cottage (Tales from Ivy Hill #2)The Ladies of Ivy Cottage by Julie Klassen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rachel Ashford’s life has crashed in around her. She’s lost her father, her wealth, and her station in life. Fortunately, the Grove sisters have welcomed her to their home, Ivy Cottage until she can land on her feet. She’s bewildered at how she can bring in an income to pay for room and board. She’s never been in this situation.

As Rachel redefines her life, she assists Miss Mercy Groves, who teaches young girls from the small community at the cottage. The older Miss Groves, who does the cooking, unites with Mercy in creating the family Rachel lacks. Their support lays a foundation for her during the ups and downs as gentlemen come to call.

Rachel’s best friend, Jane Bell handles her husband’s inn as best she can without him as her mother-in-law retires with her new husband to his farm. Jane helps remind Rachel of her childhood hopes and dreams when a beau returns to both of their lives.

All of these women learn to lean on and trust in God for their futures even the Miss Groves’s sisters who may lose their precious Ivy Cottage. It seems nothing remains the same. Will God be enough for each of them?

The Writing Desk – Enchanting!

August 17, 2017 by admin Leave a Comment

The Writing DeskThe Writing Desk by Rachel Hauck
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An enchanting book about two women living in different times, present day Tenley and Gilded Age Birdie. Their stories intertwined with ease keeping me turning pages late at night. Rachel Hauck created strong characters I grew to enjoy and care about in their dilemmas. Both women’s faith in God were tested. Tears came to my eyes as their stories enfolded. I would recommend any of the three books I have read by this author including The Wedding Dress and The Wedding Shop.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and have given my own opinion in this review.

The Alliance – Wild and Fascinating!

September 1, 2016 by admin Leave a Comment

The AllianceThe Alliance by Jolina Petersheim
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Alliance fascinated me! The reality of the plot is frightening. This isn’t your usual book about plain people. A plane crashes in a field in an Old Order Mennonite community in Montana. This begins the relationship of Moses Hughes with Leora Ebersole as they discover that the reason his plane’s system stopped and no electronics or electricity at the store work are related. Moses brainstorms with the Mennonite Community about plans for the future as all mayhem could break out. Their worst fears are realized as the world as they know it has come to an end. Suspense rises on every page as they defend their compound and figure out a way to combine the Englisher’s and the Mennonite’s efforts to survive. Leora’s faith in God comes under fire as life changes drastically. Moses is distracted with feelings for Leora. I could not stop reading this book and spent a few late nights finishing it.
I highly recommend The Alliance written by Jolina Petersheim. I’m anticipating the sequel.

I received a copy from Net Galley for my honest opinion which I have given in this review.
